Is Your Family Registered on Florida Highway Patrol’s Emergency Contact Database?
Our Florida Car Accident Lawyers Think You Should Be
At Wooten, Kimbrough & Normand, P.A., our Florida car accident attorneys understand that the death of a family member in an automobile accident or other tragedy can be devastating.
But the fact that it may have happened eight, ten or even 24 hours ago and you hadn’t been notified would be overwhelming to say the least.
This is exactly why Florida officials established the Florida’s Driver and Vehicle Information Database, known to Florida Highway Patrol as DAVID.
With DAVID, Florida residents who have either a Florida Driver’s License or state-issued ID card can provide the names and phone numbers of two emergency contacts to state officials. The names will be associated with the driver’s license or ID card numbers which law enforcement uses anyway to identify victims. In the event of an emergency, the contact information is revealed as soon as law enforcement runs the driver’s identification number through the system.
In a state where everyone seems to be from somewhere else, and all family members are back home, the emergency contact database can save precious time in trying to notify next of kin.
There are approximately 700,000 Floridians registered, but of course FHP would like every Floridian to sign up.
Adding your name to the database is free and you can register online at Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicle website and then by clicking on the “Emergency Contact Information” link. The personal information you provide is private and can only be accessed by law enforcement agencies.
If you or one of your family members is in a car accident, either as the driver or occupant or even as a pedestrian, FHP or the local police want to be able to notify someone as quickly as possible. They’re asking you to help them by making sure every driver in your family is registered.
The Orlando car accident lawyers at Wooten, Kimbrough & Normand, P.A. want you to make sure that your family is safe and that you know about it as soon as possible. That is why we recommend that all of our clients register with DAVID.
